GOTV
Hooray. 3 days left til the election, and we're into the true Get Out The Vote process.
That meant opening new offices called staging locations all around the county. I was working out of some office north of my usual office and my housing.
The best part of the GOTV is that there are suddenly whole new leadership hierarchies, and I got to be a "canvas captain". That meant that I got to tell volunteers where to go canvassing and give them their lists and check them in when they got back. More importantly, it meant that I did not have to go canvassing myself and I got to sit down most of the day (though I did miss another beautiful day in Colorado). There were tons of new volunteers, including a bunch of volunteers who flew in from California for the big weekend.
In order to prepare for all the volunteers and the stepped-up efforts, there was a massive effort in the main office last night to prepare packets of addresses and instructions and pens, etc., for everyone. It was pretty crazy, and is again tonight, since all new packets are being built (and I guess the same will happen tomorrow and Monday nights, too).
Tonight, there was a campaign conference call with some pep talks by campaign managers, then a short speech from Senator Obama himself. I have to admit it wasn't all that inspiring and the guy sounded awfully tired to me (he was about to do a rally in Indiana, I think, and I know he was in Pueblo, Colorado this morning). But it was all about "there are 72 hours left and it isn't the time to slack off. Work more, sleep less, don't relax til after Tuesday, etc."
I am happy to get an extra hour of sleep tonight with the time change (and another coming up when I drive back to the Pacific time zone).
